While many industries come to a standstill over Christmas and New Years, the local real estate market remained quite active with a total of 265 sales in the lead up to Christmas and New Years.
Core Logic RP Data recorded 229 sales in the week prior to Christmas Day, while 36 properties sold in the first week of January.
Southern suburb hot spots, where more than seven sales took place over the festive season, included Terrigal, Wamberal, Wyoming, Umina Beach and Woy Woy.
Northern suburbs including Bateau Bay, Blue Haven, Gorokan and Killarney Vale were also heavily targeted by buyers.
New listings are also off to a strong start in 2016 as 63 properties hit the market last week.
Local agents anticipate the number of new to market properties will continue to grow over the next couple of months and lead to a market where supply outweighs buyer demand.
