Nakuru County has benefited from a World Bank funding to improve its transport network in a bid to ease traffic flow in Nakuru and Naivasha towns.
The Bank will spend Sh471 million on the construction of non-motorised pathways in Nakuru and Naivasha towns.
The project includes construction of separate motorcycle tracks, bicycle tracks and bicycle stands and matatu picking points.
Motorcycles and bicycles popularly referred to as boda bodas have immensely contributed to traffic within the towns.
Nakuru County Chief Officer for Physical Planning and Housing Mr Victor Ndereba said Friday the construction works will further include the tarmacking of the 22 km footpaths.
“The facilities when completed by April this year will tremendously reduce the traffic jams along major roads such as Oginga Odinga, Moi Road and Kanu Street among others,” said Mr Ndereba.
He said at least 70 per cent of the project has been completed and has created more than 150 jobs out of which 30 have been allocated to women.
It is also expected that the project will also reduce the increasing cases of accidents.
